I've Seen This Before
In the mid-1990s, I was doing outside sales for an ISP. I believed the internet was going to change everything. Nobody else did. I got thrown out of offices. Business owners told me it was a fad. I told one CEO that if he didn't get online within five years, his company wouldn't be relevant. He didn't listen. But his kids did. They took over and implemented every recommendation I'd made. The business survived because the next generation saw what he couldn't.
I was right about the internet. Not because I was smarter than anyone — because I could feel the shift. When you're standing inside a paradigm shift, there's a frequency to it. I felt it in the 90s. I felt it again in 2024 with AI.
Same doubt. Same skepticism. Different decade. Different technology. Same me.
25 Years of Technology. No Degree. All Self-Taught.
I've spent over 25 years in technology — website development, SEO, marketing, social media management, domain strategy, and the last decade in technical sales and IT. I don't have a degree. I did a year at a community college and realized traditional learning wasn't built for how my brain works. Everything else, I taught myself.
Over the course of my career, I built enough knowledge to be — as I like to say — really dangerous. Enough to solve problems, enough to talk with engineers, enough to know when someone's bluffing about what's technically possible.
The Decision
When my employer went through its final round of closures, I had a choice: relocate or take the severance. Where others saw struggle, I saw a window of opportunity.
I'd already been exploring AI for months. I was in an excellent financial position — zero debt, no payments, years of discipline living beneath my means. I didn't have to rush. I wasn't desperate. So I took the severance graciously, not out of crisis but out of conviction.
Then I went all in. Courses from Vanderbilt, Michigan, Google — crushing 3-to-6-month programs in under a week. Eight, ten, fourteen hours a day. Eat, sleep, learn, repeat. I earned over 30 certifications and applied every lesson to real businesses — not hypothetical scenarios, but the actual companies I was building.
Why This Is Personal
Writing has always been an enormous challenge for me — not the ideas, the mechanics. Spelling, grammar, the physical act of getting what's in my head onto paper in a way that meets my own standards.
AI changed that. My process now is: brain dump, iterate, polish, publish. What comes out is material I'm genuinely proud of — true to what I want to say and polished to a level I couldn't achieve alone without extraordinary time and effort.
AI gave me the ability to match my output to my intelligence for the first time in my life.
That's not a productivity hack. That's a playing field that finally got leveled. And if it can do that for me, it can do that for anyone.
What ByteFlowAI Does
SCOPE. SHOOT. SOLVE.
ByteFlowAI helps small businesses and solo entrepreneurs execute AI automation that saves time, reduces cost, and eliminates the repetitive work eating their day.
I don't sell you a product you have to come back to me for. I build systems, teach processes, and transfer capability — so your team gets smarter, your operations get tighter, and the value compounds long after our engagement ends.
- •The Recon — AI readiness and workflow audit. We scope the problem before we touch anything.
- •The Build — Scoped automation execution. Workflows, agents, integrations that run in production.
- •The Fix — Something broke or stalled. Incident response and stabilization.
- •The Briefing — Direct Q&A and tactical guidance. Your questions, straight answers.
Every business has a process. Every process has friction. If you're curious about AI and willing to look at where that friction lives, I can show you what's possible.
The Bottom Line
I've been early to every major technology shift of the last three decades. I was right about the internet when people laughed me out of the room. I'm not wrong about AI.
If you have curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a business that runs on processes — we should talk.
I'm Matthew Sutherland, founder of ByteFlowAI. Based in the greater Columbus, Ohio area. Building remotely, serving businesses everywhere.
